an excellent song that reminds the 80s. Is that last thing a good
or a bad one? I don't know. Maybe Tommy Mottola could find the answer
relatively easy - he's got the potential. But I'm not going to wonder
about that. Let's assume that the song is perfect for the 80's (it
is, and let's not worry about), and that for this tune the 80s sound
is not good enough. So, we need something different.
That different thing is the guitar part mainly. Again, like in
other Minster Hill songs, the guitar part is very well thought and
performed, but maybe not enough suitable for a modern sound. And
again, it can be easily improved.
The first thing is to get rid of the funky guitar rhythm on Verse.
Done? OK, now just let the guitar move along with the bass. Same
part as before, but rhythmically like the bass. And since a contrast
with the part on Chorus would be really helpful, play it muted.
That is muted guitar and open chords at end of phrases during the
Verse.
For a better contrast, on Chorus you should play just rhythmic
plain full chords. Make it simple, natural, and powerful... Now
you've got a winning song!
And by the way, you should change, in the same way as on Chorus,
the rhythm guitar part on the solo too. Give it a try, it should
work. Right now it seems to me that you loose some energy there.
I'd like to add also that the keyboard part and sound are really
good here. The way they are now is a good combination that adds
colors and beat to a song of any time. Good choice and use!
Once again I hear the Beatlesque choice of back vocals. This time
I think their use helps the song. Maybe because they complement
the song's feelings with their positive nuances. Or maybe because
they make a good "team" with the harmony. Anyway, in my
opinion the effect they produce will be even greater when you modify
the guitar as described above.
Overall, the track shows a very skillful songwriting and professional
performance. It has an enormous commercial potential and... here's
a thought - it reminds me of some recent Hits from The Darkness.
Not because of the vocals, or the instruments, or the style. Maybe
the energy?! Take that in consideration too, and my compliments!
Good Luck,
