Or in three words: It's a "B side Hit".
But don't get me wrong - it's a B side Hit that many Top Major Artists
would love to have on their CDs. And in some situations it will
actually stand out as a - "and, the winner IS"...
So, what makes it a Hit, and what puts it on the B side?
Hit - song's structure is perfect! Elements like lyrics, arrangement,
performance and the deriving influence on the listener are strong,
effective and touching. Melodies and harmonies are fine and pleasant,
elaborate and raw at the same time (because of your skills, or because
it's just the way you are?).
Anyway, all of this makes the song simple and complete.
Why "B" side then? Well, I would say (and I could easily
break my legs here)..., even if I'm impressed with all of above
of this song, what is missing is the "one row" (or maybe
half a row) that will make me sing along. You know, those few notes
that will start "pulsing" in ones head at "impossible"
moments.
I doubt anybody has the recipe for that row. But your song has
excellent ingredients - the most memorable are:
- end of the Verse;
- Beginning of Chorus;
- Choir;
- Coda;
And something slightly misleading is:
- the "C" part (after the second Chorus"), it starts
very well, but while developing, seems like it doesn't do what one's
senses or ears would expect. Some chord/melody lines are resolving
in a drop of intensity.
That said, the critique is over. And after listening numerous times
the song, trying to figure out some weak note, I feel something
pulsing in my head :)
Good Luck,
