Danielle's lyrics again prove to have the mass appeal characteristic
for today's hit songs. The listener can easily feel like the text
is an excerpt from her/his own life.
The performance, as in other Danielle's songs, is again at a high
professional level. The emotional interpretation and sheer musicianship
are standing out. But there are elements that are standing behind
the expectations.
The choice of instruments really hurts the musical quality of the
song. The flute sound in the intro makes an unpleasant impression.
It might be that particular flute sound that is unsuitable, but
again it hurts the overall quality. Especially in combination with
the synth on the third measure of the intro - that dissonance doesn't
help the song at all.
Also, the song needs additional dynamic development. Some rhythmic
use of instruments would greatly contribute to the effectiveness
of the beat. You have to make sure that each of the song's parts:
Verse, Pre Chorus, Chorus, Bridge, offer a different, but related
interpretation of the main idea.
Currently the Pre Chorus offers something different and interesting.
Then on the Chorus you go back to the initial beat and the effect
is lost. This leads to a sense of monotony.
So with the above in mind, let's again accentuate on the need of
dynamic development. Similarly to "Silent Treatment",
rhythmic effects/patterns mixed with the main rhythm would really
make the beat more appealing. Accents, Stops, beat alterations,
are some of the approaches that could lead to a better dynamic effect.
In brief, among the strong elements of this song are the Lyrics,
Verse, Pre Chorus, and the end of the Chorus. The weak elements
are the lack of dynamic development which can be achieved by intensifying
the rhythmic significance of the Chorus. And definitely better instrument
sounds are needed.
