Dr.
Slide - RX for the BLUES
Dr.
Slide was born in Potsdam, East Germany in 1963. As a
young teenager he began playing in local blues bands.
As his following grew so did his consciousness. As a result
of some political statements made during an appearance,
Dr. Slide was banned from public performance in East Germany.
But his music could not be silenced.
At
the age of 21 he jumped the wall, leaving family and friends
behind to start a new life in West Germany.
Before
long Dr. Slide was a fixture in the local blues scene,
heading the house band at Berlin's premier blues club,
The Blues Cafe. There he shared the stage with many legendary
bluesmen. His band opened European shows for Bo Diddley
and he was a guest player in Luther Allison's European
band.
|
In
between tours Dr. Slide began visiting the United
States, primarily Mississippi Delta region, where
he sought out and learned from local blues players,
traveling the back roads and sleeping in his rented
car.
This
front porch pickin' convinced him that only by relocating
to the US would his playing evolve from academic
to authentic. Dissolving his band in 1998, Dr. Slide
embarked on a solo career as a traditional blues
artist.

So,
this is the story - the rest IS music! And on this site
is in vision...
You
can check out some or all of the live performances on
his video page, and while there,
you'll notice the originality of the talent and voice
- it's coming live from life!
Life translated into music is the best "substance"
for songs with a unique and characteristic sound - Blues.
And Dr. Slide does it all - you can feel the vibes of
Blues into the lyrics, titles, melodies and harmonies,
but more importantly - into the performance.
Have
you noticed how many Blues songs start with "I was
born in (just name it: New Orleans, Texas, Memphis etc.)"
- hundreds and maybe more. And now this bluesman is singin'
"I Wasn't Born Here".
Funny, if you thoght bluesmen are from those cities only
:) But it isn't fun! Like he sings: "All I could
think of was to be free...", back in times when "blues"
had to be "estabilished" as a "brand",
black people sung about being free and live with joy.
It was REAL! And now Dr. Slide is real the same way they
were, because of his life experiences.
Here we go again - life is music!
So,
his life is music, his music is Blues and his Blues is
also love. Songs like "I Got A Beautiful Woman"
or "Nobody Kisses Me"
are an emotional touch in the roots of the originality.
Dr.
Slide presents a raw and sincere style of performance.
For that reason he's been identified as "The most
innovative and unique voice in Blues today".
He is an acoustic *almost always* solo performer who has
won some prestigious awards like in the annual "Regional
Preliminary for the International Blues Talent Competition"
sponsored by the Blues Foundation and the City of Fort
Lauderdale. Second Place Award - his prize, a four night
engagement at the House Of Blues in Orlando, FL and an
appearance on the acoustic stage at the Sound Advice Blues
Festival in Ft. Lauderdale, one of the Southeast's premier
blues event.
Dr.
Slide plays National Resphonic guitars and vintage Telecasters,
but it's not the only reason that make "critics and
audiences rave about his intense live performances and
inspired virtuous guitar work."
His
calendar is rather intensive, so if you want to book him
for a show, you should call with some advance - 954-584-6314,
or write to: booking@drslide.com.
